Senior Site Reliability Engineer (Ruby)

Melbourne
189550 AUD/Year
  • $160-$180k base + super
  • Remote working (AU based)
  • Greenfield Ownership – First reliability hire; shape systems, culture, and tooling from the ground up

Intrinzic is proud to be partnering exclusively with a rapidly scaling SaaS company that’s transforming a deeply human, high-impact industry that is growing fast across Australia and North America. This Healthtech platform directly enables better support, access, and outcomes for thousands of people every day. It's tech with a tangible purpose, and it's scaling rapidly.

You won’t be maintaining someone else’s definition of “reliability.” You’ll be writing it. This is the first hire of its kind for the business, and it’s yours to shape. If you're motivated by high trust, real ownership, and the chance to impact how an entire product scales, this could be your sweet spot.

Why this role is exciting
  • You’ll build reliability from the ground up — not just maintain it.
  • You’ll work across the development and platform teams, bringing structure and strategy to how things are monitored, deployed, and scaled.
  • You’ll be given autonomy and trust to make technical decisions — no red tape, no endless approval chains.
  • You’ll help define reliability culture: kill switches, retries, graceful degradation, observability tooling, disaster recovery — all of it.
  • This is a remote role and you can be based anywhere in Australia.

You’ll be responsible for:
  • Reviewing and improving Ruby on Rails systems, with an eye on performance, fault tolerance, caching, background jobs, and failure handling
  • Evolving the CI/CD pipeline (currently CircleCI) to be faster and more reliable
  • Driving the rollout of modern observability tools (Datadog, New Relic, etc.) and setting up meaningful, proactive alerting
  • Designing resilient architecture patterns - retries, back-offs, circuit breakers, isolation of workloads, and graceful degradation
  • Building debugging and support tooling for internal and external teams
  • Helping define disaster recovery, kill switches, runbooks, and developer ergonomics

What makes you a good fit?
  • You’ve worked in a fast-paced Product SaaS company where engineers ship daily — and you know how to keep things safe without slowing them down
  • You’re experienced with Ruby on Rails in production and can spot fragile patterns quickly
  • You’re fluent in AWS (particularly Lambda, ECS/Fargate), and understand when to go managed vs custom
  • You care deeply about observability and know how to build meaningful dashboards and alerts that drive decisions
  • You’re pragmatic, not everything needs to be perfect, but the important things can’t be fragile
  • You enjoy being the person people turn to when things break — because you don’t just patch it, you fix the root cause

The reality (read this before applying):
  • This isn’t a cruisy role maintaining polished systems. The tooling isn’t all in place. There are reliability gaps. You will be asked to operate with autonomy, with limited hand-holding, and build the scaffolding for reliability in a fast-moving, high-trust environment.
  • You’ll need to make smart trade-offs, influence, and challenge patterns that don’t hold up at scale. If you need slow decision cycles, detailed specs, or someone to hand you a roadmap - this probably isn’t for you.
  • But — if you get a buzz from shaping how a company scales the right way, working alongside smart engineers who value pragmatism over perfection, you’ll love it here.
